Acurate Idleness

This video investigates the paradox of physical work. Condemnation and redemption at the same time, submission and release. It contrasts the image with the word, the documentary genre with the literary discourse. Bodies of miners and metallurgical workers, emblem of the power of physical labor, fall under the "aggression" of intellectual thought. A selection of texts by Simone Weil, Oscar Wilde and the Taoist philosopher Zhuangzi, who contradict, judge, sublimate or detest muscular work. The insidious discourse composed by these literary quotations endows with a paradoxical symbolism to the sequence of images, which include the cleaning of the miner after work, the exit of the mine, the extraction of the stone and the conversion of the mineral into precious metal. The video includes the collaboration of the poet Siegfried Hüttenbrink, the artists Ulrike Aigner and Leni Hoffman and the musician Javier Colís.

"Eifriges Nichtstun" was resented in the exhibition hall of the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart in 1993, purchased for the catalog of the ARTELEKU Art Center and Center pour l'image contemporaine, Saint-Gervais, Genève and included in the program of La Hamaca The latest generation of Spanish video in the years 1980/1990 (Barcelona July 29, 2010).
