From 1989 to 1992 was part of the creative team Utray-Lamadrid. Utray-Lamadrid started its artistic career in 1989 with the presentation of their video installation “Vicios Privados Beneficios Públicos” (Private Vices Public Benefits) in the International Contemporary Art Fair of Madrid, ARCO89 (VideoArco89). In this year, Utray-Lamadrid produces his first video "Excusa racial" (Racial Excuse), with the collaboration of Jesús Rodríguez Lenin (The Art Of Fools, soundtrack); present a video installation of this same project at the contemporary art fair in Madrid ARCO89 (VideoArco89); and the video installation "God created the natural numbers" in the College of Architects of Malaga art gallery.
In 1989 the team moved to the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and produced two videos during their stay in the Nam June Paik class: “Punto en boca” (Sealed Lips) and “Experiencia vital concentrada” (Life Experience Concentrate).
Two years later, in 1991, Utray-Lamadrid participated in the prestigious exhibition Muestra de Arte Joven. They also produced during that year two of its most innovative videos: the video-portraits “Panes y Azotes” (Breads and Lashes) and “Passé Parfait” (Pass Perfect). "Passé Parfait" was nominated in the Deutscher Videokunstpreis 1992 (ZKM-Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe).
Later, in 1992, Utray-Lamadrid were awarded in the First Video Art Price of Madrid Capital of Culture for the dance-video “Siete Montañas y Siete Ríos” (Seven Mountains and Seven Rivers).
Utray-Lamadrid produced “Eifriges Nichtstun” (Acurate Idleness) during their stay in the Schloss Solitude of Stuttgart, in 1993: a pseudo-documentary video which combines images of miners and metallurgical workers with literary references to the sacred and secular aspects of physical work. In 2010, “Eifriges Nichtstun” was included in the catalogue of the video distributor Hamaca of Barcelona.
Between 1994 and 2004 Luis Lamadrid works as a video maker for the spanish TV channels: Canal Plus and Canal Satellite Digital.
Since 2004, works as a graphic designer while continuing his artistic work making videos such as “Lo”, “Tío Pepe”, “Naked Reality”, “Obedience”, “Found Footage Self Portrait” and “The European wants to play”, “A sound is a sound”, “My pleasure”, “Remember who you are”, “Tenth Video”, “Iconophobia”, “The artist meant...”, “Opportunity", “Bureaucracy” and “For Nobody”.
In 2011, participates in the traveling exhibition "Las Caras B de la historia del vídeo español” (The B Sides of the Spanish Video History) and "The 8th Busan International Video Art Festival” (Seúl)
In 2015 shows his work in the art gallery Espacio Labruc (Madrid) and exhibited some of his vídeos in the show "Daliludens, derrota de la rigidez” (Lima, Colombia).
Recently his vídeo "Recuerda quién eres” (Remember who you are) was selected in the 29th Edition Of Les Instants Vidéo (Marseille and Buenos Aires, 2016). Some of his videos are distributed in the catalog of the Hamaca of Barcelona and in the LUX Collection of London.
In 2017 collaborates with the artist Andrews Wax in the project Into The Machina, with the videos "Tremblement de Terre très doux sous mes pieds” and "Mandádome callar” (Making Me Shut Up).In addition (2018) promotes with Andrews Wax the collaborative project Chain of Changes: videos "Day for Night”,"Damaged”, “Tiempo absoluto” and "Moon Phase”.
This year, Luis Lamadrid publishes the booklets of poems “Nootrópicos” (2019), “Saco de azares” (2019),“El número es gráfico” (2019), “Fondo de cristal” (2018), “Poemas vigilantes” (2018), “Poemas de corta y pega” (2012) y “Poemas de ombligo” (1990). Produces the video works “SONDA”and “3 Color Tests”.
In 2020 makes the video “War”, “3:30 AM Inside a Potato” and “Virtus Maris”. Publish the booklets of poems “Tal vez imagen” and “Isocrono”. Soundtracks: “Another symptom”, “I feel sorry for you” and “Interferences”.
2021. Collaborates with the free improvisation collective Raras Músicas and Proyecto Morrison.
2022. He collaborates with Tony Peña (Subida al abismo), the project Enéssima, the electroacoustic improvisation quartet Itínere and the interdisciplinary improvisation group LAC.
2023. He collaborates with the free improvisation collective NoDo. VIDEOACÚSTICA Project together with Paco Utray: "Transducción”, "Naufragio ” and "Inverso”.
2024. “The Birds”, Utray-Lamadrid 2024. With Max Nitrofoska, Aitor Montes and Cuencas Vacías. Based on the story Cantar casi by Max Nitrofoska.
